Moment

We stood together
silhouetted
reflected
connected.
Faces bathed in moonlight
illuminated
beautified
perfected.
And we looked out and saw stained glass
and beyond that, our campus,
and beyond that, the world.
But when you leaned in
and we closed our eyes
we only saw each other.

Teacher

In the morning
when the crisp apple breeze makes every leaf tingle and shudder
our eyes focus in your presence.
New beginnings
shimmering ideas
reach out from you
rays of the sun, polychromatic
at times, overwhelming.
And your words, and your wise and crackling eyes
irradiating that light
pure and glowing with warmth
which seeps into our labyrinth hearts
are the spark
where from a seed
someday will an oak tree grow.

Dream

If you look in my eyes

will you see all locked within?

Can you read their longing,

their slow, tortured hymn?

This happiness wakes me

from an enchanted state,

Now I'm here in your arms

I've just had to wait.

Don't leave me again

in this fierce, biting cold,

Keep me close to your side

as the world grows old.

I can feel all beauty

I can taste sweet desire

Now I'm with you forever

In your heart's glowing fire.

All around and nowhere

love
is all around us
bubbling
fizzing
causing a fuss

it
can be loud
and open
passion muffling reason

or
it can be silent
secret
buried deep inside an echoing cave
where no-one can hear its cries

sometimes
love is shared
between two people
bound together
but other times
love is lonely
desperate
longing to be heard
and the loved
doesn't see
beyond the lover's calm visage
doesn't see
the joy
the sorrow
behind their shining eyes.

Frost

The notes
echo within me
hollowing my heart
I feel
like they want to erupt
through my throat
out of my mouth
as song.
The clear pitches
ring like crystal glasses
carved with delicate patterns
like the frost
clinging to my bedroom window
looking like spun sugar
like the spiraling leaves of an exotic fern.
And the notes seem so loud
as they tug at my heart
But outside of my being
it is silent
Except for the slight rustle of falling snow
And no-one can guess
by looking at me
my predicament
Like the feathery wisps cascading from the sky
Numbed pain.
